  • Making It Simpler To Invite

    Making It Simpler To Invite

Along with ecards for every event and occasion, 123Greetings also offers a wide range of invitations for our users.

While apps help us remain connected with our folks on the mobile, all einvites essentially don’t. With the option to WhatsApp cards from our site, we feel invitations have a huge potential. However, the category hasn’t been updated in a while and we are looking forward to you, our studio artists, to come up with some snazzy, classy invites which would help boost your portfolio and in turn help our users.

The key element is an invitational message, such as ‘Let’s go…’, ‘Please drop by…’, ‘Come on over’, ‘Let’s hangout’, ‘Your presence is requested’, ‘Save the date’ etc. Without these twists of words and only a graphic, the invite just remains a pretty picture rather than a mode of communication.

Here are the sub-categories you could put your cards under:

    Birthday

Birthdays are always special, whether it’s your child’s first birthday or your spouse’s 50th, a celebration is a must! Parties are incomplete without loved ones so help our users by creating invites across ages for helping them arrive at that perfect invitation.

    Party

A baby shower, a housewarming party, a reunion party, a girl’s night out, a summer party… reasons to celebrate never run out. This sub-category gives you a chance to experiment with formal and informal party invites. Think out of the box and give your users a collection of great party invitations for every mood.

    Business

Be it celebrating a deal, or a year-end party, the workplace offers ample reasons for you to be social. A team meeting, a presentation invite, a social lunch, an Off-site or a retirement party all need planning and all need invites. Help our users select the right invite by foreseeing these occasions while designing an invite. The look should be professional and the typeface not too casual.

    Food & Drink

Dinner, lunch, pizza party, burger dates, barbecue, coffee breaks, cocktails, brunches and ice-creams – you name it and you want to share it with someone else. Create trendy invites any meal that you feel can be sent to family, friends, co-workers, crushes and better halves!

Food & Drink Invite by cozyreverie

    Professional

A successful business contract signed, a deal finalized, a target achieved or just chilling out after a hard day’s work, business professionals need some time out as well. The difference between the business and professional sub-category is in the type of cards. While the business cards are more formal, the professional cards are smart casual. So do consider the difference in tone of voice and elements while designing for this sub-category.

    Wedding

Invitations are the first step towards a wedding. After all, it’s your folks that make your big day special. From ‘Save the Date’ to the ‘Rehearsal Dinner’ invite, from the bachelor party to the main wedding day invite – this sub category gives you enough room to play. Help our engaged couples make their wedding exceptional with your magical invites.

    Clubs

Don’t we all love having a few drinks and letting our hair down at that popular club in town or inviting our friends for a night of clubbing and having a blast! Clubs have special nights and happy hours which can reflect in your invites. Create some cool, trendy cards for club invites which pep up the receiver of the invite to join in the fun.

    For Friends

Today’s generation simply needs a reason to celebrate. A friend who was away for long has come back to town, what does the group of friends do? Party. Graduated with brilliant marks? Party! Be it a slumber party, pool party, dance party, a night out, a holiday together or just a get together help users send across some quirky, exciting invitations to get the party started for their buddies.

    Invite For Friends by cozyreverie

Apart from the above sub-categories, we also have sub-categories such as Other Invitations and Thank You.

For the other invitations section, we request you to study the type of invites, they are largely those which don’t fit in well with the other the sub-categories.

The thank you sub-section allows users to RSVP and thank their hosts for inviting them. So don’t forget to upload some cards for this sub-category as well.

Make the invites fun, quirky and interesting. Something which users would relate to and want to send out to their loved ones.

Hope you have a great weekend and happy designing!

Here are 5 tips to help you create some wonderful ecards for the Fourth of July.

Design elements: The American flag, fireworks, parades, barbeques, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions and political speeches and ceremonies are the elements commonly associated with the Fourth of July. Decorative elements such as streamers, balloons and red, white and blue clothing can be used to add some pop to your cards. Stars and stripes are a prominent feature in the American flag and should be used to perk up your cards. Choose your elements wisely so that it stirs up happiness and pride for the state.

    Ecard by kizbarry

Colors: Red, white and blue are the prominent colors for the day. Derived from the American flag red stands for hardiness, white signifies purity and innocence while blue signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice! There is little room to move around with these colors and hence we would love to see how you could experiment within these restrictions. If you are using fireworks in your card, you could use a black background otherwise avoid using black as a background. Star spangled text with the American flag in the background would work well.

Emotions: Fourth of July is a day to express love and pride for the nation. It is a day of freedom and celebration. Your cards should dwell upon the true meaning of American freedom. The idea is to share joy and good wishes on this holiday. Users would want to send across celebratory messages to their near and dear ones, thank someone who made their Fourth of July special, send a birthday wish to a loved one celebrating his or her birthday on Fourth of July, or send some inspirational wishes to a friend. Your cards should serve these emotions.

Music: Needless to say the music should suit the event – patriotic songs and tunes, sound of fireworks bursting in the background and a mix of drumbeats and trumpets would be ideal for your cards.

    Ecard by simpydesigns

Overall presentation: Elements such as card design and music is important but the key is to understand your target audience, the sender-receiver relationship and to address their needs in the card. All the above elements should express love and pride for the state. Celebrate the spirit of red, white and blue in your cards. Stick to a single image with a crisp message for postcards. If you’re card is a flash card then feel free to use a mix of elements and play with your animation, though ensure that your animation is smooth.

Fresh Events At The Start Of Spring

National Beer Day, National Pet Day and National Scrabble Day are the newly added events and we are looking forward to seeing some awe-inspiring ecards from all our visualizers. So, buckle up and design to impress!

Here are some tips and guides from studio team to make your cards look truly awesome.

    National Beer Day (April 7)
Not that we need a reason to celebrate beer, National Beer Day just makes it official. Your ecards could capture the fun, frolic and merriment of families and friends getting together for a pint of beer. An image of beer in a beautiful location, friends raising a toast to their friendship would look good. You could also create simple ecards to send out to colleagues and friends asking you to join you for a beer. There are tons of humorous quotes about beer. You could include those in your cards with a beer glass or a pint watermarked as the background. Make sure no brand is visible in the image you choose. Even though this is a day to celebrate and have fun, we could use this day as an opportunity to remind users to be safe – cards around the theme of don’t drink and drive could become popular. Use casual or bold fonts keeping in mind the spirit of the event.

    National Pet Day (April 11)
This day acknowledges the sheer joy and happiness pets bring to our lives. It is also a day to raise awareness about homeless animals and those at shelter homes waiting to be adopted and loved. You could dedicate your cards to encourage family and friends to adopt a furry friend thus raising awareness or cards showing your love for pets that day. You could go ahead and create some funny cards on the mischievous and attention seeking acts of your pets. You could also create cards inviting a friend or family member who also has a pet to spend the day and pamper your pets together. Owning a pet means having someone to greet you always and someone to cuddle with – display these emotions on your card. There are some beautiful and heart touching quotes on the companionship, love and friendship related to pets. Look them up and include them in your cards to make it a popular one. Simple font on simple backgrounds or cards with images of soft, cute and cuddly pets could do the magic.

    National Scrabble Day (April 13)
Scrabble finds its place in majority of American homes. It’s a great way to spend time with family and loved ones. It also gives us a reason to challenge our families and friends for a game of words and banter. These emotions should be captured in your cards. Wish fellow scrabble lovers a Happy National Scrabble day, create cards challenging family and friends to game of scrabble or send thank you messages to fellow gamers. Amusing cards focusing on word play could work wonders. Colorful backgrounds, bold text and simple messages would work for your cards.

Hope these pointers help you in getting your perfect card for each of these events. It is a great opportunity for you to showcase your innovation in style and card design. As from all of us at Studio – keep designing and delighting us with 123Greetings Studio!

Holi is an Indian spring festival, known as a day for playing with colors and merriment. Hence, it is indeed an opportunity to increase card sends and capitalize on the earnings by increasing ROW sends.

Here, are some tips to help you produce some great ecards for your users.

Design elements: The elements for Holi would be colored powder, water balloons, water guns and buckets of colored water. Drums are also played to create an infective energy and an atmosphere of enjoyment. Family and friends drench each other with colors and throw water balloons at each other. Dancing and singing add to the revelry. Since there aren’t many elements, there is a little room for experimentation but we would love to see how you use the elements and come up with creative and visually appealing cards. All these elements can be incorporated with the concept of the card and used to send out celebratory wishes to family, friends and loved ones.

Colors: The festival of colors gives you the freedom to experiment with plenty of colors in your cards. Use your imagination to display different shades of colors in different ways. Bright primary colors would be preferred over dull pastel shades. Red is considered the most auspicious color of the occasion. Black or white should not be used at all for backgrounds, except for the text. Stick to clean bold fonts which will standout against colorful backgrounds.

Emotions: The target audiences in this case are family, friends and loved ones to whom users want to send wishes. The idea is to share joy and good wishes for the holiday. Some may also want to send across messages to their loved ones or thank someone for their warm Holi wishes or send a fun message to their friends. Messages should cater to these emotions.

Music: Needless to say the music should suit the type of festival – traditional Indian music or peppy dance music with drumbeats would be ideal for your cards.

Overall presentation: If the card is a postcard, then a single image with crisp and attractive message would work well. If the card is a flash or a video, then try out some exclusive animation. Play around with the design elements. For example, color water balloons bursting on the card background, or characters throwing colors at each other and using the water guns can become popular. Elements such as card design and music is important but the key is to understand the sender-receiver relationship and address their needs in the card.

It is a great opportunity to prove your caliber as a visualizer and to display an understanding of human expressions and design techniques. • How to make a winning card? Tips & tricks from Jothi

How to make a winning card? Tips & tricks from Jothi

“Dream, dream, dream! Conduct these dreams into thought, and then transform them into action.” These words by the former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam inspire and motivate Jothi to transform her dreams into reality. She believes that achievement is not easy unless you’re determined and focused to convert your dream into reality.

Currently working as a 3D modeler for Disney TV series and EA FIFA games in technicolor, Bangalore. Jothi takes this opportunity to share her experiences and thoughts about her successful contribution to Studio as an artist since 2008. Coincidentally, it’s her Studio profile that helped her bag her dream job at Disney!

Jothi draws inspiration from famous characters of Disney such as Tom & Jerry and Cinderella. Even though failures crossed her path, she was never dejected as she felt that failures were her first steps to success! “Never give up”, says Jothi. Today her work through ecards is loved by people all around the world.

When Jothi started as an artist in Studio, expressions made by her caught our user’s attention with right use of images, messages, colors and music. Today, she is sharing with us some of the tips and tricks to make great ecards and achieve high sends.

Images: The main image of the card should be catchy and clear for view. “Even if you are not good at animation, a clean image with an effective ‘me to you’ message can acquire high sends. Flowers, hearts, butterflies and teddy bears attract more user attention and one should use them effectively in their design,” says Jothi.

She suggests bright flowers and candles for Birthday cards. Cool colors such as blue, green and cyan describe fun and freshness; she recommends these colors for friendship and Everyday Cards to say “Good Morning” and “Good Day”. These colors are also great to describe winter and Season’s greetings with snowfall. Deep blue colors are best to describe emotions at night with a suitable incorporation of moonlight suggests Jothi. The text color should be of contrast to the background design and images.

Animation tips: Studying flash in her leisure time during childhood helped her master the art of animation and helped her to embark on her journey as an artist. Jothi imparts the following techniques to add more beauty to your creation – Masking using Guide layer, Blur and sparkle effects to add more attraction to cards. She recommends taking simple tutorials and lessons available on the internet such as using symbols, how to make falling stars, how to add sparkle effect and how to create a snowfall using action script. She believes that there is always something new to learn every day and improve oneself as a great designer.

    Christmas Ecard by Jothi

She recommends the following software/tools to the visualizers to better themselves and create high quality ecards:

Photoshop: One can create good background images for their card with this software. You can export them as an image and upload as a post card.

Flash: Flash enables one to create animated cards with more techniques like masking, using symbols, guide layers and using script for your animation and to create video cards

Image ready: This enables you to create great thumbnails and animated GIF cards.

These were some of the tips which Jothi wanted to share with all the visualizers, to conclude she wants to convey to all the artists to never get demotivated even when their cards don’t perform well. Jothi shares that even when her cards faced low conversions, her keen interest in designing kept her going. Low conversions to her were only an indication of her mistakes that she was making in her ecards. She only improved from the errors that she made. Her final tip is, “Before uploading a card in a particular category, go through the popular cards in that category. Don’t just imitate the popular card! Try to make a design that is equivalent to popular design in that category with a different thought!”

Jothi wishes all her fellow visualizers all the best and a Happy and Prosperous New Year! In her words, “May every visualizer in Studio explore the world artistically with his/ her creative talent!”

We hope Jothi’s experiences and tips motivate you to go out there and achieve more, as from us, all we would like to say is, DREAM ON! And you too can achieve the impossible!

  • 5 Tips To Market Yourself On Social Media

5 Tips To Market Yourself On Social Media

As promised, here are 5 steps for promoting yourself on social media:

Your profile pic and cover photo describes who you are
Keep your profile pic to just your face. Look for an asymmetrical picture, facing the light for more drama. Also, try to stick to one profile pic for all the social media you are on. This will help people recognize you on social media and reduce the questions on their mind while looking for you and your great work!

The cover photo is for telling a story about yourself. The cover photo is where you excite your friends about your true passion for great design. It could be a quote or an appropriate card designed by you for the season.

    – Content timing
Ensure the work you post on your page is contextual. Don’t post a Good morning card at night or a summer card during Christmas. Post a card appropriate to what you are feeling at the moment and you will never go wrong.

P.S> Keep in mind not to overdo it

    Add trending hashtags
Make sure you add a title to your post along with trending hashtags, especially on Twitter & Instagram. Don’t just post the link to your card but also communicate the message around with it. View our Twitter page to get a feel.

    Everything can’t be marketed everywhere
Ensure the type of card you are promoting is appropriate for the medium you are promoting it on. Videos, Flash & animated .gif works great on Facebook, Google Plus & Instagram but not necessarily on Twitter or LinkedIn. Use the visual medium Pinterest & Google Plus for promoting postcards and animated .gifs. Twitter will help direct traffic to your studio page and increase chances of increasing your followers. LinkedIn helps you talk about your experience and expertise used while designing the cards and creates more backlinks for the cards.

    – Share good stuff
Share your cards on communities on Google Plus, Facebook Groups , Twitter Lists and Pinterest Group boards to gain popularity. The good stuff you share has a way of rewarding itself. You would get to interact with like minded people, if not you would have just made someone’s day with your ecard.

Do leave your comments below for any questions you might have and we would get our social media team to answer them.

  • 8 Ways To Create The Ultimate Hanukkah Greetings!

8 Ways To Create The Ultimate Hanukkah Greetings!

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights and Feast of Dedication, is an eight day Jewish Holiday. The word Hanukkah means ‘dedication’, the theory goes that with enough dedication and commitment, God creates miracles. Like many other faiths, the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah brings light in the darkest time of the year. Being an important festival for Jews and its closeness to Christmas, it is a good opportunity to increase card sends and gain on the earnings by increasing ROW sends.

So what are the important elements associated with this holiday? We’ll cover some major ones which will help you produce some wonderful ecards.

    Ecard by Jothi

    • The Menorah – The lighting of the menorah is the most important Hanukkah tradition. A menorah is a candle stand with 9 branches. Each evening of Hanukkah one candle is lit with a special blessing. Include this element and a glow to your cards.
    • Dreidel – Playing with dreidel is a popular Hanukkah tradition. People play this game with a square spinning top. The game is played with pennies and candy. The player who has all the candy and pennies in the end is the winner.
    • Hanukkah Food – Fried foods are traditional during Hanukkah in remembrance of the sacred oil. Popular fried foods are Latkes (Potato pancakes) and Sufganiyot (Sweet jam filled doughnuts). Eating dairy products, especially cheese is another Hanukkah tradition.
    • Hanukkah Songs – Variety of Hanukkah songs have been composed over the years in Hebrew & English both. Research on some of the popular Hanukkah songs and add them to your ecards to give it that extra touch.

    Send ecard

Send your loved ones Hanukkah greetings!

    • Gift Giving Tradition – Usually gift giving is reserved for younger children, and the only traditional gift on the holiday is gelt (coin shaped chocolates covered in gold foil) or small amounts of money.
    • Colors And Symbol – Blue, silver and white are the Hanukkah colors and Jews fills their homes with these colored decorative items. The large Star of David is a Jewish symbol used to decorate homes and convey message of festive spirit. Hence cards should reflect these colors and symbols for people to appreciate them.
    • Hanukkah Flowers – Jewish people share the joy of Hanukkah by sending beautiful Hanukkah flowers and gift baskets to their loved ones. Since blue and white are considered colors of Hanukkah, Lilies, white and blue roses and chrysanthemums are the widely exchanged Hanukkah flowers.
    • Family Celebration – As in many other celebrations of many other cultures, Hanukkah is about family. It’s a joyous time of the year when those you love gather together to play games, share food, blessings and music. Hence this can be showed in the cards for Wishes, Family, Friends and loved ones.

So an optimum mix of all the above elements would surely help you come up with great ecards. Showcase your creativity and capitalize on your earnings! So, good luck and make the most of this festival!

  • Diwali Ecards To Send Wishes For A Prosperous Year!

Diwali Ecards To Send Wishes For A Prosperous Year!

Diwali the festival of lights, the auspicious day for Hindus is around the corner. Featuring in the top 10 popular holidays for sending cards, it is indeed an opportunity to increase card sends and capitalize on the earnings by increasing ROW sends. Diwali is one of the most popular Indian festivals and is celebrated by the Indian diaspora worldwide.

Here are some tips to help you produce some great ecards to sends across wishes of a prosperous and joyful year.

    Design elements:

The elements remain the same so there is little room for experimentation. Idols of Ganesh and Lakshmi, fireworks, clay lamps or diyas, candles, sweets and Hindu religious symbols (such as Om and Swastika). The elements can be incorporated with the concept of the card and used to send out either religious wishes or celebratory wishes.

    Colors:

Colors may move from dark to light. Colors such as pink, green, grey or blue don’t work for this festival. Among the bright colors you can use red, yellow and orange. These are considered as auspicious colors. Another color that is acceptable is black (even though it may not always be perceived as auspicious). Black in this case can be used to denote the move from dark to light or the shift from evil to good, to maintain the essence of the holiday. It can also denote the dark sky which is beautifully lit on Diwali night.

    Emotions:

The targeted audiences in this case are family and friends to whom users want to send wishes for a prosperous and happy year. The idea is to share joy and good wishes for the holiday. Some may also want to pass across blessings to younger ones and share some fun with friends. Messages should cater to these emotions.

    Music:

Needless to say the music should suit the type of festival. Go for more traditional music using Indian music instruments. Pianos and violins are not a good choice for this holiday.

    Overall presentation:

If the card type is a postcard or anything static then the single image should be very impressive and adding on a crisp and attractive message will add to the flavor. If the card is a flash or a video then try out some exclusive character animation. For example an animated Ganesha, or virtual diyas and fireworks in different styles can become popular. Also take note of the font style and font colors along with other aesthetics.

Tap on this festival and make your earnings brighter next month!
