Of Mistletoe And Candy Cane And All Things Christmas

The season of love, the season of joy, the season of giving, Christmastime is all of that and more for us here at 123Greetings Studio. It is the BUSIEST time of the year and for all you Studioators it is also the season to rake in the green!

The spirit of Christmas is in its beautiful traditions, religious blessings and thoughtful customs. Among the fabulous cards you have submitted already, there are a few elements, integral to the festival, that haven’t been covered as much. Below are some themes that you could look at incorporating into your submissions for the event.

    Mistletoe

Mistletoe is hung in doorways during the holiday season and in ancient times was believed to have magical healing powers. It is also believed to bring good luck, fortune and happiness to those who kiss beneath it. Use this element in your cards to depict not only love and romance between couples but also playful humor as, according to custom, if you’re caught standing under the mistletoe, you may get a kiss!

    Candy Cane

A story goes that a German choir master in 1670 was worried about children sitting quietly all through the Christmas eve service and decided to give them something to eat. He had candy shaped in a “J” to remind the children of the crocks of the three shepherds which became really popular when they were given out during nativity plays. Now candy canes come in many different flavors that the whole family can enjoy and is a fun thing to add to your cards to friends as well.

    Poinsettia

Known as the ‘Flowers of the Holy Night’, Poinsettias are synonymous with Christmas decorations. The shape of the poinsettia flower and leaves are sometimes thought as a symbol of the Star of Bethlehem which led the Wise Men to Jesus. The red colored leaves symbolize the blood of Christ while the white leaves represent his purity. Poinsettias are a popular gift and can be used in business or even social greetings.

    Family-time

Christmas is the time for bear hugs and family. Hanging up Christmas stockings for Santa to fill, sending out invitations to Christmas dinner, topping the Christmas tree with the angel, baking goodies together and going caroling.

Three main colors are traditionally associated with Christmas are red, green and gold so use these liberally in your cards. Help our users express the feeling of warmth and goodwill through your cards to those that they can’t be with.

Please ensure your submissions are in at least a week before the event to allow us time to review and pass them. Christmas is a global event and we have a whole section dedicated to expressing this wish in different languages – do look at adding your cards to this as well and help our users send greetings in their own native language.

Season’s Greetings and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours.
